About the artist:

Walter Keeler (b. 1942)
Walter Keeler studied at Harrow and Hornsey College of Art establishing his current studio in Wales in 1976. He first came to prominence for his bold, innovative functional ware enriched by experimental use of salt glazing. His significant body of domestic ceramics over nearly five decades has continued to explore rich seams of other historic pottery traditions such as Whieldon Ware, creating witty, highly sophisticated works to use and enjoy every day. His appreciative respect for, and knowledge of, the useful object and its place in human culture through time has ensured his works can be found in many public and private collections worldwide including here at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

As Keeler says: “I have always thought of my best pots as extraordinary objects during a commonplace job.”
