Jess Bugler: Enclosure V

About the artist:

Jess Bugler’s work explores the dissonance and complexity of modern life.  Using the concepts and natural language of print to conjure internal worlds, she pursues sensations and interrogate emotions and predicaments.   

“During Lockdown, I began to draw on found paper boxes.  These unconscious drawings became an exploration of our experience of enclosure, developing into prints, sculptures, and installation. The nature of the boxes, their folds, creases, labels, braille, meant that I was not drawing onto a blank surface but interweaving my intentions within a surface of found marks.”

Bugler is an elected member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and has been awarded the H-Art, Old Mayor’s Parlour award, the Intaglio Printmakers Prize at the National Original Print Exhibition, the Peter Reddick Relief Printmaking Award and the Hawthorn Prize at the Flourish Award, amongst others.
