About the artist:
“First and foremost, my artwork evokes a sense of place, capturing it through free-flowing marks, exaggerated colour palettes and intense tonal values. This notwithstanding, my art is intensely personal. My artwork either implicitly references or directly elucidates my own feelings of cultural dissonance. I use the natural world to investigate what it means to belong to a place. My paintings and my recent dry point prints draw from my mixed racial heritage by blending the tropics of Guyana and the temperate landscapes of Britain. Accordingly, my dual identities are unified. My amalgamation of landscape allows me to carve my own homeland and embody myself within my art. Moreover, my practice is conceptually inspired by my philosophy degree, specifically my fascination with feminist phenomenology.”
Wilkinson graduated with BA (Hons) in Philosophy from University of Exeter and is currently artist-in-residence at Berkhamsted School. In 2020, she competed in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.
